Vets Take the winnings in Spirited Clash against St Albans

St Albans Vets 5 vs 24 Verulamians Vets

Something special took place at St Albans RFC tonight and it was Vets Rugby. Old fellas who know what they want and how to organise themselves took centre stage under the floodlights and a proper game ensued.

A capacity crowd was treated to St Albans forward dominance vs Verulamians back speed. Vee’s scored the first try through a fly hack by Andy Paton. Great score. The St Albans pack rumbled into gear led by Captain Andrew Weldon and some old school rugby unfolded. St Albans missed a few attacking chances and the half ended 0 - 5.

The second half saw three Vees tries push their lead through the fleet footed Dan Kerry & Nick Byrne. The scrums were St Albans however and they were content to win them. Old school thinking. The last words were to be St Albans as the ball was taken from a line-out and driven to the line with Andy Weldon claiming a deserved score. He missed the conversion, mind!

THANK YOU to everyone who turned up. Organising this sort of stuff is my bread and butter but people actually turning up is the reward. And we were packed out for a Friday!

Then Beers and slapping each others backs and just enjoying competitive rugby again. It means so much mentally and physically to the older gentleman!

Next match 27th December at Vees for Charity and 4th February vs David Scanlan's Welsh friends!

Cheers

A mention to Verulamians as a whole who this last weekend managed to field 3 sides the Vets on Friday night and then the First & Second XV on Saturday which is a great achievement for our club!
