“Winter is Coming”

It’s been a mild autumn so far, but the forecast this week means that winter is finally on the way.

As we head towards the festive period, the club continues to grow on and off the pitch

The big focus for this issue of the newsletter is the Club Christmas Lunch. VPs, friends and club members are all invited on 14th Dec. Details are below.

The plans to upgrade the club’s electricity supply is underway, with the 3 phase conversion to be completed shortly. Also in line with improving the club’s sustainability credentials, we have applied for a “Go Green Grant” to help pay for insulating the ceiling of the clubhouse and other initiatives as we look to make the Club fit for the future. In ongoing works, the clubhouse floor is going to be refreshed over the next few weeks, and as mentioned previously the continuation of the internal improvements will see new chairs for everyday use at the Club, whist the event chairs are all being re-upholstered.

We are also in the tender process, for a cleaning team to attend to the clubhouse at the end of each week.

On a social level, the 2nd week of the Autumn Internationals saw our biggest bar takings, an event that we would love to repeat with our new TNT license to show live rugby at the club. Please look out for the notices confirming club opening times, particularly when the seniors are playing at home

Once again, we will be hosting the annual St. Alban’s Charity game on the 28th Dec. This year, proceeds are being raised to support JOCA, a charity born at Welwyn RFC which focuses on supporting players who have struggled with mental health challenges. Please come and support the players and an amazing cause.

The Christmas Raffle is also underway. As always, Mazzie B has been working diligently behind the scenes to organise our annual Christmas fundraiser. More prize donations are required so please get in touch if you are able to assist. Each player at the club will receive two books of tickets to sell, to be distributed through your team managers. Please spread the word (and tickets) as far as you can. The Grand Draw will be on the last day of training this year on 15th December.
