Introducing our new Head Coach…

The club are delighted to have secured the services of former player Chris Monaghan as our new Head Coach for the 2022/2023 season, taking charge of the Vees first team. Our thanks goes to George Harding for his excellent work rebuilding the senior section over the last season which was themed as The Rebuild.

Chris Monaghan spent 10 years playing for the Vees from 1998 after attending Verulam School. Monners spent most of that time in the 1st XV enjoying promotions, county cups and 7s titles. Chris has spent the last 20 years playing for Milton Keynes Rugby Club (with a short interlude to return to the Vees in the early 2010s).

The last 13 years Chris has coached at Milton Keynes, including Junior, Colts and Senior rugby. He is RFU Level 2 qualified and is currently working through with ERACA (Level 3 award). His coaching has broadened out to work with the Irish Qualified Programme (IQ Rugby) focussing on talent Identification and support coaching for age grade rugby. The last 3 years of focus has been on transition for Junior players to Senior rugby, which has seen over 20 younger players start their senior rugby journey at Milton Keynes.

“I started my rugby journey at the Vees, so to be able to come back in a coaching capacity is extremely exciting. I want to continue the development of a young and exciting squad of players, which was started by George Harding over the last couple of seasons. What’s also important to the Club is to be able to create a pathway for the blossoming Youth section and help support (where I can) the team of coaches & volunteers making the Vees what it is today. I cant wait to get started with everyone at the club and am relishing the opportunity!”

To the Vees……
