Chairs Report August 2023
After all the hard work that has been put in since my last report, it’s time to start the new season. The seniors have already had two friendlies in preparation for the league and merit games. There may be 2 other at home on the 9th of September and on that date it is the opening day of the World Cup. League Merit tables start with 2 home games on the 16 th of September. Try to come along and support. KO to be announced.
Mini and junior registration is on the 3 rd of September and a good turnout is expected. Thanks to all volunteers who help week in week out to make this possible.
We have the new laws concerning tackle height now in force and a number of awareness sessions have taken place for player management teams, coaches and referees nationwide. Supporters should also be aware that there is a code of conduct for them on the touchline. Please support these new laws as they are a learning process for all in rugby. Supporters, at present, are possibly the least knowledgeable of all on the new laws. Please be positive in your support.
For those that have not been down the club of late you will notice the changes and improvements to the clubhouse and grounds. Some are still in process and in the next few weeks you will see the switch on of the new flood lights, the opening of the lounge bar renovations and a ladies toilet refurbishment.
The carpeting in the clubroom is to be replaced and behind the floor renewed. We are looking into new bar top pumps and replacing all the lights in many club areas to save on electricity and create a better atmosphere.
On the upside the council have told us that the road potholes are to be repaired. on the downside we have to pay nearly £5,000 towards the repairs. Although we are with the other 2 clubs using the road are responsible for its upkeep, it seems strange that the allotments have not been asked to contribute. The repairs will be done next week, but we will be able to pay in instalments.
All the best in rugby for the 2023-24 season. Your contributions in many ways are much appreciated by our hardworking committee.
See you down the club.
