The 2nd XV make it 3 in a row

Verulamians 2nd XV 58 - 15 Chesham 2nd XV

The ever growing 2s welcomed a proud Chesham outfit who unfortunately couldn’t field a full 15. But in the spirit of rugby Vee’s gave them 3 of our best including Chris Jux to make for a good contest for the fans on the sidelines.

In the early minutes Vee’s played with good structure utilising the tip on runners and space in the wider channels. After a good set of phase play Omar Ramdani crashed over on the right hand corner. Vee’s we’re spurred on by this score and quickly scored again through captain James Ryan off the back of some good hands.

As Vee’s started to gain more confidence and exploit the wide channels where there was plenty of space debutant and former colt Matt Feeney raced into the left hand corner after some great passes and offloads through the team. Omar once again got onto the scoresheet shortly after this making the score 20-0!

The ever bruising Kristie Glennon then scampered under the posts following some Fijian style offloads from Darren Westhead to make the score 27-0. Despite the score Chesham remained courageous and scored under the posts through an intercept try.

This appeared to motivate the travelling team who then shortly after scored a gutsy pick and go try following a lot of close quarter phases.

That was half time and despite the score Vee’s definitely felt they could put Chesham to the sword more through better discipline.

We responded well and got a quick try through our handy centre Robbie Nicolau. This was then followed by another try for Omar making it a hat trick for the front row! Chesham responded well though as they had done all afternoon and managed to scored to make it 37-15.

However, Vee’s greater fitness started to come to light as Robbie dotted down once more which was quickly followed up by a try for Matte Keohane. Chesham never gave up though and through the handy boot of Simon McCullough they kept beating back the Vee’s attack. The game was then ended through a try from the evergreen Darren Westhead to make the full time score 58-15.

A big shoutout to our man of the match Ciaran Hennessy who hadn’t played a match in 3 years. Another big mention to our debutant Matt Feeney and the 3 players who played valiantly for Chesham!

The Blue and Yellow train rumbles on!
